Cleaning My Bears…Boyd’s Bears

When faced with the massive job of packing to move, you may be tempted to wrap and pack your items as quickly as possible, just to get it over with…or am I the only one who was tempted to start wrapping my dusty little Boyd’s Bears and deal with them 1,000 miles down the road?

Now, don’t get me wrong – I do dust my house, but if you’ve seen Boyd’s Bears Bearstone figurines, you know they are somewhat intricate and dust tends to settle into their resin details.  Usually, I “spring-clean” my decor, taking a soft paintbrush to their nooks and crannies, however, I have been slacking recently and it really showed.   I’m sure I will thank myself later for the extra time I take now.

Here is a quick rundown of what I did to get these little cuties ready for their trip.

One way is to use Dawn foaming dish soap mixed with warm water and a soft bristle toothbrush.  Lightly scrub the resin fur and folds, careful not press to hard on any protruding bits, then rinse under a stream of warm water from the faucet and let air dry.

When I keep up with my cleaning, I can use a small paintbrush, either dry or wet, to dust the details.

It’s a lot easier to to just dust the details with a brush every so often, when I dust the house, but many of these guys have been sitting out in an unused room, lonely and forgotten, collecting dust…like everything else in there.

I have a long road ahead of me, cleaning, packing, sorting, purging, and repeating the process over 2,000 square feet.  This may have been a small task, but I had to start somewhere.
