Throwback Thursday – 80’s Wanted List

I love the 80’s – the clothes, the shows, and especially the music!  Today, while I was listening to my 80’s playlist at the gym, I was inspired to share my Amazon “Throwback” list of items inspired by the Awesome Eighties!

One of my favorite cartoons is Jem and the Holograms.  I admit that I still DVR episodes when I find them on cable.  Check out these truly outrageous earrings! I can almost imagine calling Synergy myself with them.

Scooby Dooby Doo, Where are you?!  That dog and his boy, Shaggy, sure could eat, right?  If they were always so scared, why did they keep hanging around with Fred, Daphne and Velma?

Fraggle Rock was another of my favorites!  Those little Doozers – how stinkin’ cute were they?  Red was my favorite, but I’m not sure why – she was awfully competitive – maybe because she liked swimming. I always hoped she and Gobo would be boyfriend & girlfriend.

“Goonies Never Say Die”  I can’t be the only one who wished she and her friends could follow a map and find an old pirate ship full of treasure in their hometown.

“Ray, when someone asks if you’re a god…you say YES!!”  So many awesome lines from the original Ghostbusters movie.

As teenagers, we would walk to the local Hill’s Department Store, where we’d eat popcorn, drink Slush Puppies and play video games.  Of course, the most popular was Pac Man.  To this day I can hear the sound effects (and smell the popcorn).

What throwback list would be complete without Snoopy?  I’d always save The Peanuts comic strip for last when reading the Sunday funnies, and adore The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,  A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,  and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Star Wars was a game changer!!!  The special effects were like nothing ever seen, the musical score like nothing ever heard, and the story line appealed to so many people.   Kids everywhere were playing make-believe as Luke, Leia and Han, and trying to copy Yoda’s speech pattern or growl like Chewy.

I grew up in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and Mr Rogers was a kind of a big deal there. When I was little, my mom took me to meet the man, himself. I was starstruck! Now that I’m older, I realize just what an incredible human being he truly was. If you don’t know…look him up. He was a champion for public television.

My husband’s favorite is Marvin the Martian, and we have a few Marvin’s around the house (including this decal), so I thought I’d share him here, too.

I remember so many good times, growing up, playing with my neighborhood friends, and not worrying about much of anything. We rode our bikes, played with our Star Wars action figures, and watched cartoons.  Life was simpler then…isn’t that what everyone says as they get older?

So, do you have fond childhood memories from the 80’s?  What are your favorites?   I hope you enjoyed seeing some things from my Totally Tubular Throwback list.
