What Did I Accomplish That I Didn’t Think I Could

The challenge prompt for Day 2 of the Witte’s World 31 Days of December Blog Challenge is to share something I accomplished this year that I didn’t think I could.  Does anyone ever admit when they haven’t accomplished a goal they’ve set? Looking at social media, it can sometimes seem that 99% of the world is perfect.  #goaldigger  Later in this post, I’m going to share something I did not accomplish that I thought I would. #reallife

What did I accomplish this year that I didn’t think could?

This answer might seem odd to some, but I filled a dumpster.  For years, I have been denying my husband’s requests to rent a dumpster, because I never thought we would have enough “junk” to fill one.  I was SO wrong!!  This summer, after sorting through closets and boxes and bags and bins, filling our garbage cans beyond capacity each week, I finally agreed to rent a dumpster.  We not only filled that dumpster with unnecessary items and refuse, but we also were able to fill half of our two-car garage with furniture, housewares, and clothing, which we donated to charity.

As I stated above, it may seem odd to think filling a dumpster is a task that couldn’t be accomplished, but I am a packrat.  I usually describe myself, only half-jokingly, as being on the ‘hoarder-border’.  I have a hard time parting with items, feeling they could be useful or valuable to me at some unforeseen time in the future.  I never expected to be able to get rid of tons of excess clutter, in a short amount of time and I consider doing so a huge accomplishment.  I even wrote a blog post about our dumpster fun.

Look how proud he is!

What didn’t I accomplish that I thought I could?

My main goal for 2018 was for my husband and me to relocate from Ohio to Florida by October.  Everything we have done this year has revolved around that objective.  Unfortunately, I underestimated what a massive undertaking a relocation of that extent is.  Our move has yet to happen and has been postponed until 2019.  It has taken me some time to come to terms with the fact that I did not achieve what I had so desired.  However, when I look back at all the projects that I have completed this year, I realize just how much was accomplished toward the ultimate objective.  I took on a huge amount of work, and with completion of each task, we are closer to our goal.

The bottom line is, don’t underestimate your achievements.  What may seem mundane to some, could be exceptional to you.
